Nancy has been personal training intermittently since 1998, when she became a Certified Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength Professionals Association. An educator at heart and by trade, Nancy prefers working with beginners but also enjoys the challenge of working with people who have been weight training for years. Whether her clients are new or experienced exercisers, working out at the gym or at home, Nancy believes in teaching her clients the basics – the importance of using good form and performing perfect repetitions, and how to develop cardiovascular fitness while avoiding boredom and injury.
Aware that most people don’t have 2 hours a day to spend in the gym, Nancy’s “mission” is to design exercise programs that will help her clients achieve high returns on their physical activity investments. Much of her experience is with older individuals, including several women who began exercising to halt or slow the progression of bone mineral loss; but Nancy also can relate to those who are concerned about their appearance more than their health. Whatever your motivation, Nancy will work with you to identify and achieve realistic goals.
As a certified health education specialist (CHES) with undergraduate and graduate degrees in behavioral sciences and health education, Nancy is qualified to help her clients take a behavior-change approach to starting or stepping up their exercise programs. Although she’s not a dietitian, Nancy can draw upon her nutrition coursework to counsel clients on general nutrition and weight management principles.
At 40 years of age, Nancy has been an avid runner and strength trainer for 27 and 24 years, respectively. When she’s not personal training, Nancy makes a living doing health communications for a prominent public relations agency.
